Connect / Children

Our Children’s Ministry, under the direction of Dr. Nichole Huff, is committed to transforming the lives of children as they learn about the love of God and the importance of having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We believe all children should be taught to love God with all their heart, all their soul, all their mind, and all their strength, and to love their neighbor as themselves (Luke 10:27).

Our primary emphasis is teaching children the Bible. We recognize children grow through developmentally appropriate, hands-on activities; positive interaction with friends; and loving, unified leadership by dedicated staff and volunteers.

The goal of the NUMC Children’s Ministry is to support families in establishing the foundation for children to become well-equipped disciples who show the love of Jesus to everyone they meet.

King's Kids
King's Kids

King’s Kids is a Sunday night children’s program for potty trained PreK3s through 5th grade that meets regularly throughout the school year from 5:00-7:00pm. King’s Kids seeks to show children that they are loved by Jesus through Bible stories, interactive play, games, crafts, music, and more.

King's Kids

Timothy Team, which is a subset of King's Kids, is a group dedicated to 5th graders. Timothy Team works throughout the year to transition older elementary children to our middle school ministry, YouthPAC, while living out 1 Timothy 4:12, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.”

Sign-In: Sign-in runs between 5:00-5:10pm on Sunday evenings. Register online or in person and then sign in your child in to his or her classroom. Be on time – dinner starts at 5:10!

Meal: After sign-in, K5-5th grade classrooms line up and join one another for a meal in Braswell Hall. (Children in PreK eat dinner with their leaders in C105). If your child has a food allergy or special dietary need, feel free to send a packed meal from home or contact for menu information.

Rotations: Immediately following dinner, the evening begins with a large-group welcome in Braswell Hall. The kids will all hear a central Bible lesson and sing worship songs. Afterwards children begin activity rotations that include games, art, and music all centered around the nightly scripture passage. Preschoolers and Timothy Team have unique rotations within their classes that parallel this structure. In the fall, we practice for our Christmas program too!

Sign-Out: At 6:55pm, children head back to their classrooms for sign-out. Evening activities conclude at 7:00pm when children can be picked up from their classrooms and signed out by a parent or guardian. Encourage your child to share the nightly message with you and reinforce it throughout the week.

Children's Church

Nashville United Methodist Church offers a special Children's Church for older preschool through 3rd grade students. Boys and girls begin in either the 8:30am or 11:00am worship service with their family and head to Children's Church following the Children's Moment from Dr. Nichole Huff, our Director of Children and Family Ministries. Our volunteer Children’s Church leaders follow a kid-friendly Order of Worship that parallels the scripture, message, and order of the main worship service. This includes:

  • The Apostle’s Creed
  • Prayer
  • Scripture Reading
  • Story Time and Activities
  • Praise and Worship

Our children also learn the value of ministering to others through hands-on missional activities such as Backpack Buddies, Operation Christmas Child, and more.

We depend on adult and school-aged volunteers to assist with our Children’s Ministry activities. If you would like more information about our programs for children or would like to volunteer, please email or the church office.

Sunday School

Sunday School classes are an intentional way to build lasting friendships with other children while exploring and learning strong Biblical teachings. Our children’s Sunday School uses the Whirl curriculum and is structured to promote weekly family dialogue around a central theme and passage of scripture.

At Nashville UMC, we offer a variety of Sunday School classes for all ages. In these classes, children learn and practice the teachings of the Bible with lessons about loving one another, encouraging one another, praying for one another, accepting one another, and bearing one another’s burdens.
Sunday School meets weekly at 10:00am.

Nursery is available for infants and children through age four during all worship services and during Bible Studies and most special church events. Snack and juice are provided and, weather permitting, outdoor play is enjoyed on our fully-equipped playground. We have several trained paid nursery workers to ensure a consistent face and a sense of security for your child. All nursery and children’s ministry volunteers have been Safe Sanctuaries trained.

We currently have a pager system for our nursery. Upon request, each parent/guardian receives a pager when the child arrives at the nursery. If the parent is needed, the pager is used to notify the parent to return to the nursery.

Age-appropriate Sunday School classes are also available for your child.

Ask about our Mother's Room, which is available for nursing mothers and those needing a quiet place to comfort your child.

At Nashville UMC, we undoubtedly rely on our dedicated, compassionate adult volunteers for support with our nursery and children’s programming. Please contact the Church Office at 252-459-7178 or for opportunities to help in this important ministry.
